Business Snapshot

ManekNya, also known as Manek-Nyonya or a mother’s manek, is founded by two sisters – with the mission of upholding the legacy of the art of beading of a heritage and the pride of Baba Nyonya community.

ManekNya focuses on traditional beading craft that has been practiced in the Peranakan cultures for centuries. 

Our goal is to redefine the realms of art and fashion by seamlessly merging contemporary elements with the rich cultural heritage of Nyonya Art of Beading. In doing so, we aim to create a unique and innovative artistic expression that captivates audiences, transcending traditional boundaries.

Working With Satu Creative

ManekNya was in the Shell Livewire program in 2023. As part of the bootcamp training, we were fortunate to be mentored by Satu Creative, who guided us through a three-day intensive program leading up to the pitching day.

During the bootcamp, the mentorship was hands-on, with practical insights in business aspects of our startup journey. We learned to refine our pitches, develop a solid business model, and understand the importance of storytelling in presenting our ideas.

Satu Creative, as mentors, brought a wealth of expertise, providing real-time feedback, helping us to think critically, and pushing us to improve our presentations. The focus was on not just what we were presenting but also on how we could connect with the audience, making our ideas impactful and memorable.

Azuar Zainuddin

Chief Executive Officer

Ahmad Azuar Zainuddin is an educator and entrepreneur focused on driving economic and social impact through entrepreneurship and innovation. With deep experience in capacity building and ecosystem development, he designs and delivers initiatives that empower aspiring and early-stage Malaysian entrepreneurs. Azuar is also a frequent media contributor and a sought-after speaker across the region.

He was recognised as runner-up in the Best Implementation Partner category at the 2022 Shell LiveWIRE Top Ten Innovators Awards in Mexico City. He holds a Master’s in Communications and Media Studies from Monash University and a Bachelor of Arts in Design from Curtin University. Outside of work, he enjoys reading and the arts.
